Spirits at the Fire
Started while tucked away in the shadows behind the Seva Altar at the 22nd Spiritfire Festival this work began under torchlight. The experience of the sacred fire is a difficult one to transmit to one who has not experienced it. It is sometimes hard to fully grasp everything when there and this was a humble attempt to capture the feeling of just one moment of the gathering.
Solstice Sunset
Meeting the eye of a young stag on a drive home along with the resonating dive into Iron Age Celtic Art lead to this
Building Beyond
“The hands that Shaped the past, hold the present and build beyond”
While painting at the “Dance Beyond Campout” Martin let participants help direct the composition of this piece, letting them make design choices and taking cues from a tattoo shown to him. It was a glorious weekend moving from painting to dancing to painting to swimming to painting and then dancing some more!!
Of the Vine
Of the Vine was one one of the last Live Paintings started by Martin in 2023. A goal in live painting is to have something in the early stages of development, so that the audience sees significant change during the event. With many short events, this can lead to a huge pile of work in various states of progress.
Winding Through the Circle
This work was inspired by a collaborative design created for one of the sand and cornmeal mandalas at this past year’s Spiritfire Festival. The dimensional panel was what we worked on during the CoSM Halloween Party and then completed in the weeks following.
Of Luna
Reflecting on the last quarter year and how much the lunar imagery has been dominant in my work of late. I had the realization that my time shared with other humans has been minimal but the dominant demographic I have been sharing time with has been women
Badass
Witchy
Warrioress
Women.
Invocation MMXXI
A visual reflection of my meditation on the year that passed and setting intentions and commitments for the one to come. There are symbols and prayers encoded in the under layers with repetition of virtues I am seeking to cultivate as well as requests for perspective, guidance and assistance.
Stheno
“On election night 2020 I chose to spend the night in the studio rather than watching numbers shift this way and that. For a subject I chose Stheno, sister to Medusa, cursed for standing in her defense. Given all that is going on in our world she seemed an appropriate subject for the time.”
One Giant Consciousness
I was incredibly honored to be invited to join @desert_dwellers_music for their third “Beyond Borders” livestream in July 2020.
Given their special guest was the one and only @paulstamets – I HAD to paint something mushroom related.
As I was resolving the composition after the initial start during the stream I listened to the track “one giant consciousness” on repeat.
From the Box
When a friend mentioned a possible commission with some darker elements a few months ago I have admit to feeling that there was enough darkness in the world (and a high concentration in the U.S.) and it wasn’t exactly what I wanted to be focused on.
Shortly thereafter I saw something akin to this and thought about Pandora’s Box and hope being the last thing to emerge.
